Andrew Donaldson was the inaugural 2001 Eric Parker Travelling Scholar whose programme took him to Europe, Britain and the USA in 2001.
His travels included Berlin, Paris, Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, London and the USA including to Los Angeles, Chicago and New York.
Ever the person to discover unusual treasures, he happened onto a roof top apartment in Paris. During his time sketching the scene, he attracted the interest of the owner who was delighted to open up the apartment to him. His sketches show a fascinating contrast between this experience and his visits to some of the grand architecture that has changed the face of Paris.
Andrew returned to Newcastle and completed his professional degree in Architecture. He then moved to Sydney and joined the practice of Sam Neil and Partners. In 2008, he was awarded the NSW inaugural Dulux Travelling Scholarship and again travelled to Great Britain along with the Dulux scholars from other states in Australia.
Andrew now has his own practice. He is married with three children.
