Jo Bastian was the 2006 Eric Parker Travelling Scholar whose programme took her to Europe. Whilst there, she traveled in France, Italy, Croatia, Greece and Spain where her interest in Moorish architecture was the basis of numerous sketches.
Her travel experiences included many traditional and more recent examples of European architecture, all of which she recorded in sketch form.
She discovered examples of architecture that remain unknown in the mainstream. One example was the ‘singing steps’ in Croatia where movement of water across the steps creates a melody that drew her, and many others, to return repeatedly.
